PRINCIPAL NEWS
Dear Parents,
I wrote to parents last week and outlined how wonderful it is that some of the COVID-19 restrictions have now started to ease. As a school we can begin to plan upcoming events and activities with a measured level of confidence that they will go ahead. Listed below are the updated procedures;
- Camps and Excursions - Camps and Excursions are now able to proceed. Information will be forwarded to parents as the dates become closer. Please note that it will be only school staff that attend the camps.
- Student Drop Off – Parents are welcome to walk their children into the school; however, we ask that you drop your child off at the door and please do not enter the buildings.
- Carline Pick-up – This will remain the same as has been in place. Parents collecting children in cars need to enter the driveway and follow around through the basketball courts. The line will then split into an A-k line and an L-Z line that you enter according to your surname. The children will be waiting for you.
- School Office – The Office is open, however, if it is not essential to come onsite then please email office@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au or phone 9702-1466. All adults coming indoors must wear a mask.
- Walking Pick-up – Parents walking to pick up their children are asked to remain at the rebound wall area and the students will come up to you for the safety of all. I remind parents to cross the road and collect your child, please do not call them across from the other side.
- Meetings with Teachers – Remain by appointment only and parents will need to sign in at the Office with proof of vaccination and wear a mask when indoors.
Families are encouraged to test their children twice weekly with the RA tests provided. If your child tests positive please inform the school and they must isolate for seven days. Alerts will be sent to families via email if there is a positive case within the school. If your child is a household close contact they are required to isolate for seven days. Work is available for those children that are isolating and can be accessed via your child’s teacher. I remind families that this is work that they can complete at home but it is not a remote learning program.
Once again, we thank you for your cooperation and hope that the school year continues in a fashion that allows us to offer lots of events and activities for the children to enjoy.
Enrolments
We are now taking new enrolments for 2023. We have already been experiencing a demand for spots and we did ask that all existing families had their 2023 enrolment forms in by last Friday, the 4th of March. If you are an existing family and have not yet completed your 2023 enrolment form please do so asap in order to confirm a place. Enrolments are now open to all. If you know of anyone wanting to enrol at St Catherine’s please encourage them to contact the Office and book a tour.

The Parents and Friends Committee are running an Easter Raffle this year, tickets will be distributed today. On Thursday March 31st students are welcome to wear casual clothes if they bring an egg/Easter item that can be used for the raffle. The raffle will be drawn on the 7th of April and prizes distributed on the 8th.
PSG Meetings
We are currently facilitating our termly Parent Support Group Meetings for students who have any concerns that require extra support. Families involved will have already been contacted by the school. Thanks to Jess Ornsby and all of the staff for their organisation.
Cross-Country
Congratulations to all children who competed in the Cross- Country on Friday. It was terrific to see them challenging themselves and enjoying the competition. Thanks to Justin Kenez for his organisation and all of the other staff for their assistance on the day.
Division Swimming
Congratulations to the children who were selected to compete in the Division swimming today, we wish them all the best and await there results.
Review
Last Monday and Tuesday three Leadership Consultants from the Catholic Education Office conducted a School Review here at St Catherine’s. Review is a full investigation into the running of the school and the Reviewers critically analysed what we are doing well, what are our areas of strength and what are our focus areas moving forward. We now await the Reviewers report and we can use this as a basis to create a strategic plan for the next four years.
In Fourth Term we will also have the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority conduct an assessment on the school to ensure that all of our policies and procedures are compliant allowing us to maintain our registration as a school.
Drop Off
A reminder that classes commence at 8.50am. Gates will be locked at 8.50am and children arriving after this time will need to come through the Office to be signed in.
Parking
We have been contacted by several of our neighbours frustrated by parents parking in their private parking areas. We ask that families please respect our neighbouring properties.
Please be reminded of the traffic flow through the school at the end of the day. It is one way into the school until you reach the end of the basketball courts at the drive way then it splits into two lanes, families with the surname letters of A-K & L-Z.

School Fees
Families who hold an eligible Health Care Concession Card, may be eligible for CSEF (Camp, Sports and Excursion Funding). If eligible, this would also entitle families to make an application for a fee remission, which effectively would see a significant reduction of fees to be paid for the year. For more information, please do not hesitate to contact Margaret Lonergan in the Office.
School Fee Statements - School fee statements were emailed on Tuesday 15 February. If you did not receive your statement, please contact the Office as soon as possible.
Families who have not commenced a Direct Debit for 2022, need to submit a new form as soon as possible should they wish to do so. The Direct Debit form can be accessed via the website or SZapp (or the link below). Alternatively, a hard copy can be requested and sent home with your child. Once completed, email to accounts@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au.
Payment can also be made byBPay, cash or cheque.
Term 1 fees (or if paying annually) are due for settlement by 11 March unless alternative payment arrangements have been made.
For any queries, either ring Margaret Lonergan on 9702 1466 or email accounts@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au

Welcome students and parents to week 8.
Lots of things are happening in our school. Last week we had cross country, with many people around our school community participating and have achieved their running goals.
Last Wednesday we had students swimming and our school won. In the last few weeks preps have also returned to school, full time and it is awesome to see them making friends and having fun at their new school.
Sunday the 7th was clean-up Australia Day, great to see lots of students helping clean up our country and school. People are caring for our school, which makes us very happy.
Keep on being the best that you can, from all of your school and vice captains.
Hello Everyone
Last Wednesday we celebrated the beginning of Lent with liturgies throughout the school. It was an opportunity for staff and students to come together and express their understanding of Lent and their journey towards Easter.
Last Sunday’s Gospel from Luke, focused on Jesus being tempted by the devil in the desert. I suppose we are all ‘tempted’ at times and Lent is a good time to recognise those temptations and focus on what Jesus has asked us to do; which is prayer, fasting and almsgiving. It is an opportunity to make preparations for Jesus’ resurrection. I know that the student’s will be focusing on these three pillars of Lent by using Caritas’ Project Compassion website to support their understanding during this Lenten season.
Just a reminder that enrolments for the Sacrament of Confirmation 2022 will begin Monday 21st March via the parish. Enrolments Masses will be Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th at the regular masses. If you have any queries please contact Tara Bau our Sacramental Coordinator on 97021355.
Our Level Masses will begin next week with Year 5 celebrating Mass on Friday 18th March in the Chapel.
Below is a prayer for Lent that you may like to pray with your family.
Yours in Faith
Nerida Byrden

On Wednesday 2 March, 17 year 3-6 students represented St Catherine’s at the Narre Warren District Swimming carnival. The students weren’t at all phased by the venue change on the morning to a smaller pool, as they blitzed the opposition to finish 1st overall and well clear of the next best school! Well done to all the students involved on a superb effort that they should all be proud of themselves! Thanks to all the parents who came out and supported their children and thanks to Mr Prestwich for helping me out on the day.
The students who finished 1st in an event progressed to the Casey South Division swimming carnival on Wednesday 9th March. Below are all the top 3 finishes for the day.
