PRINCIPAL NEWS
Dear Parents,
Welcome back as we commence the 2022 school year. I hope that all families enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and New Year period and are looking forward to the year ahead. One of the privileges of working within a school is the opportunity to witness the smiles and excitement on the students faces as they come back to school and catch up with friends and staff. The students have quickly settled into a solid working routine and I congratulate the Preps on the terrific start they have made to their school life.
As a staff we look forward to working closely with families over the course of the year. It is imperative that we have strong lines of communication between home and school to ensure that the children can achieve to their full potential. We remain focussed on being a welcoming, safe, Catholic School where all decisions are made through a student first lens.
Personally, I again would like to thank everyone for the welcome I have received. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at St Catherine’s so far and I look forward to meeting everyone as the year progresses.
Drop Off
A reminder that classes commence at 8.50am. Gates will be locked at 8.50am and children arriving after this time will need to come through the Office to be signed in.
Pick Up
Thanks to all families for your cooperation with the new pick up procedure. As mentioned in previous communication to families this change was instigated to prioritise the learning time for students. The old collection method was interrupting at least 30 minutes of learning in the afternoon every day. As the week progressed last week it became smoother and smoother and I thank families for your flexibility and cooperation.
Wet Day Pick Up – The students will remain in their classrooms until 3.10pm and then head straight to their collection area.
Enrolments
We are now taking sibling enrolments for 2023. We have already been experiencing a demand for spots so to ensure a place we ask that all existing families have their 2023 enrolment forms in by Friday the 4th of March. After this date enrolments will be open to all.
Staffing News
This year we welcome Anna Viney (Deputy), Gavin Balzary (Gr 6), Rebecca Cramp (Gr 3), Kathleen O’Leary (Gr2), Chris Maggs (Gr 1), Peter Pizanias (Gr 5) and Georgia Kapotis (ESO) onto the staff. They are all looking forward to their time at St Catherine’s and I am sure that they will be made to feel welcome by everyone.
Congratulations to Justin Kenez and his wife who welcomed baby Jack into their family last week. We wish them all the very best during this most special time.
Congratulations to Jasmine Bentley who is expecting a child in May. Jasmine will continue to teach Grade 2M9 until the end of Term One. We are currently advertising for her replacement.

- The Office is open, however, unless it is absolutely necessary please email info@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au or phone 9702-1466.
- Please contact teachers via email or phone.
- Families are encouraged to test their children twice weekly with the RA tests provided. If your child tests positive please inform the school and they must isolate for seven days.
- Alerts will be sent to families via email if there is a positive case within the school.
- If your child is a household close contact they are required to isolate for seven days.
- Work is available for those children that are isolating. Please contact your child’s teacher. Please note that this is work that they can complete at home but it is not a remote learning program.
- At this stage our governing body DOSCEL has instructed schools to place camps and excursions on hold.
Beginning of Year School Mass
- Due to the current restrictions our beginning of Year Mass is on hold. It will be organised as soon as COVID regaulations allow.

Whole School Approach to
Positive Behaviour Support
Welcome to the new school year! It has been so lovely to see familiar and new faces in and around our school. All students have engaged in a week we like to call 'Learning to Learn'. As part of this week the students spent time getting to know one another, their teachers and learn how they can SHINE at school.
St Catherine’s has a whole school approach to building positive relationships and we teach and celebrate our five school-wide expectations. These are positively stated and visible throughout the school. At the commencement of each year, students and teachers unpack each expectation and explore what it looks like, feels like and sounds like at school; in the classroom, at play and during transition and movement times.
Be sure to read our fortnightly newsletters, to explore our SHINE expectations and how you can support your child at home in building positive relationships, resilience and confidence.
Our SHINE school-wide expectations encompass all aspects of school life for students; during play, learning and transition and movement times. They are:
Stay Safe
Have Respect
Interact Appropriately
Notice and own our actions
Engage in learning
Over the coming weeks you will start hearing from our Year 6 SHINE Leaders about our weekly SHINE focus, and all things SHINE!
We look forward to a wonderful year ahead.

Learning Adjustment Leader & Student Support
Hello Everyone
I hope that you had a relaxing break ready for another amazing year.
This year we focus on the Gospel of Luke, who narrates the birth, ministry, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. Throughout the year we will be examining Luke’s Gospel as a staff and with the students. The parish is very busy at the moment with trying to complete last year’s First Communion and Confirmation sacraments. We still have another two First Communions and six Confirmation Masses to go. The dates are as follows: First Communion will be celebrated on Saturday 26th February at 9.30 and 11.00am and Confirmation on Wednesday 9th,16th and 23rd and Thursday 10th, 17th and 24th February at 7.30pm at St. Michael’s Church. At the moment we are not able to celebrate masses or liturgies at school however when we are able to do so, I will let everyone know.
This Friday 11th February is World Day of Prayer for the Sick, it is an opportunity for us as a faith community to pray for those who are struggling either physically or mentally. Below is a prayer that you might like to say with your family. Yours in Faith
